The Sportlerhaus in Hamburg is a new building with 38 apartments, three commercial units, a co-working area and a common room. It emerged from a network of sports-enthusiastic families who actively promote sport in the neighborhood.
The façade tiles of the "Craft" series by Agrob Buchtal allude creatively to the reflecting water surfaces of the adjacent harbor basin. Depending on the weather and daylight, the glazed stoneware tiles subtly change in gloss and color. These subtle changes are reminiscent of the play of light and movement on the surface of the water.
The irregular firing of the tiles creates depth, a lively, heterogeneous surface and lends variety and structure to the white and monochrome building. With their horizontal profile and bright, reflective colors, they create a striking accent in the neighborhood. At the same time, they pick up on the tradition of glazed clinker bricks in the surrounding area and reinterpret them in the lighter color spectrum of Baakenhafen. Thanks to its handcrafted appearance and durable materiality, "Craft" is particularly suitable for urban contexts with high design standards.
The sustainability concept of the Sportlerhaus is designed for resilience and implements the Hafencity eco-label in platinum standard. The focus is on the responsible use of energy resources, the use of environmentally friendly materials and sustainable building operation.
