The Tinnerbäcksbadet, realized by the renowned architectural office 3XN, presents itself about 200 kilometers southwest of Stockholm in earthy-warm colors as a masterpiece of spatial composition. The 18,000 m² of ceramic tiles from Agrob Buchtal play a key role here, not only for the timeless elegance, but also for the expected long service life - one of the essential basic requirements of sustainable architecture.
Integrated into its surroundings
Originally opened in 1965 at a bathing lake in Linköping, Tinnerbäcksbadet was getting on in years. The city therefore initiated an international architectural competition for a new building with extended facilities. The Danish office 3XN won with a sensitive approach that harmoniously integrated the new building into the urban planning situation. The building presents itself as a clearly structured, compact volume on the neighborhood square, while its undulating floor plan allows for flowing transitions to the surrounding green space.
Natural materials and color scheme
The pleasant room atmosphere of the Tinnerbäcksbadet results from warm earth tones and natural building materials. Ceiling acoustic panels made of cement-bonded wood wool, wall cladding made of filigree wooden slats and vividly structured floor tiles from the Savona series by Agrob Buchtal create an inviting environment. The Chroma Pool series dominates the bathing areas with its sand-grey floor pattern. Natural materials also determine the bathing areas, where ceiling trusses and acoustic panels as well as wooden wall claddings harmonize with the sand-grey Agrob Buchtal tiles. Chroma Pool tiles in white-grey create seamless transitions in most of the pools, while in the family pool area, active white mosaic tiles adorn the elegant pool walls and edges.
Made to measure down to the last detail
Custom-made detail solutions such as the linear flat channels from Agrob Buchtal ensure optimum surface drainage and minimize the number of mitre cuts required, making the pool surrounds appear as a single surface. The Chroma Pool series is also cleverly used on the 50-meter competition pool and the benches along the glass facades to create a consistent appearance.
As durable as the future
There is a design logic behind the recognizable desire for a consistent appearance. The ceramic tiles not only meet all functional requirements - for example in terms of durability, slip resistance, cleaning and hygiene. They also ensure that the Tinnerbäcksbadet can be understood intuitively. The result is a swimming pool that will not wear out physically or visually in the long term. The design by 3XN is therefore aimed at a long service life - probably the most important basic requirement for sustainable building concepts.
