Hytect

For permanently beautiful facades

The cost of cleaning building facades can be enormous. The revenue of building cleaning companies in Germany was nearly 30 billion euros in 2024 and is growing annually—many millions are spent on facade cleaning alone. Hytect can significantly reduce this expense. This saves on operating costs for property owners.

Hytect's self-cleaning effect keeps facades clean

Less cleaning, less maintenance. The Hytect surface has a “self-washing effect”: When exposed to light, organic dust, dirt, and other particles on the surface are broken down and simply washed off the facades by rain. This means you can enjoy beautiful buildings for many years to come without any worries. Another plus: anti-graffiti protection. Graffiti can be easily removed with appropriate cleaning agents without damaging the surface. Our facade ceramics meet the highest requirements of ReGG III set by the Anti-Graffiti Association. Cleanability has been confirmed by an independent testing institute—a real advantage for urban spaces. Costs for mechanical cleaning are virtually eliminated.

Protection against moss, fungi, and algae

The thermal insulation of buildings has positive aspects. But there are also negative aspects. For example, during the dew season, moisture condenses on insulated exterior walls. There, it can remain for a very long time. If dust, dirt, or other organic substances are also present on the facade, this creates an almost ideal breeding ground for microorganisms—such as moss, algae, or fungi. This can result in unsightly stains on facades.

On facades with Hytect ceramics, such stains are practically impossible. This is because neither dirt nor dust can adhere permanently there. In addition, the photocatalytic effect causes the formation of activated oxygen. This ensures that fungi and moss cannot grow on the facade in the first place.

How the self-cleaning effect works

Titanium dioxide is fired into the ceramic at high temperatures. As a catalyst, it triggers a light-activated reaction with oxygen and humidity. This produces activated oxygen and a hydrophilic, water-friendly surface. The activated oxygen now performs two crucial functions. On the surface of the ceramic, it breaks down microorganisms such as fungi, algae, mosses, or germs and inhibits their growth. This saves maintenance costs over the building’s life cycle. Air pollutants such as nitrogen oxides from traffic or industry are reduced. Hytect permanently improves the ambient air quality of the building.

The hydrophilic ceramic surface ensures that raindrops spread out into a thin film and wash away the dirt. This self-cleaning effect prevents dirt from adhering. This minimizes cleaning costs.
