AREA PRO: Confident performance at Coherent

Ceramic tiles are ecological, durable and easy to maintain, in other words, sustainable by nature. The Area Pro concept series from Agrob Buchtal also proves in Coherent's new office complex what it promises architects as a versatile modular system: just the right thing for everything.

Silicon Valley in Lübeck
Coherent LaserSystems, founded in 1966 in Silicon Valley, California, is one of the world's leading innovators and manufacturers in photonics. In Germany, the global group is represented by nine branches, one of which is in Lübeck. Strategic considerations and continuous growth of the company suggest a change of location. Coherent found the right address on the southern side of the Hanseatic city, in the district of Lübeck-Genin.
The company commissions the Hamburg office PSP with the new building. The design places the 2-storey technical area of the new office and production complex at the centre: this is where high-precision lasers are developed and manufactured for manufacturing applications within the IT industry. Directly adjacent to the production building is a 15-metre-wide U-shaped block that provides the right space for all administrative activities.

Rooms without limits
On four floors, a modern open-office concept offers the required level of encounter, exchange and flexibility that promotes innovative thinking and enables agile working. The communicative link between office and production is the shared inner courtyard of approx. 400 m².

Openness is probably the surest way in spatial design to stimulate creative team spirit and communicative exchange. In Coherent's new branch, Area Pro connects floors, lobby, lounge and catering areas and allows the view to flow unhindered in walking zones to focus concentration on the essentials.

Showing true greatness
As a "construction kit", the collection serves every spatial requirement in new buildings and offers systematic solutions and details that PSP architects used to design holistically and consistently - even across floors thanks to the special format of the 135 riser.

What can, what must architecture achieve today so that sustainable demands find tested realisation? Maximum flexibility and spaces that can react as easily as quickly to changing requirements. With the new building at Estlandring, the high-tech company Coherent Deutschland and Architekten Ingenieure PSP are making a confident statement at the Lübeck site and creating a modern working environment that grounds employees and visitors with a clear architectural language.
