Science Minister Lino Barañao, whose department has found its new home in the new building complex together with research institutes and scientific organizations, sees the center as a bridge between the past and future of science in Argentina. The past, which brought the country three Nobel Prizes in scientific disciplines, is also present in the immediate vicinity in the form of historical buildings: The center, which covers a total area of almost 45,000 m², was built on the site of a once renowned winery that had been left to decay for many years. In the meantime, the buildings have not only been restored on the outside, but also functionally integrated into the science center.

The planned second construction phase, which will include an interactive science museum, library, media center and lecture halls, points to the future. The project hopes to provide knowledge to solve national problems, strengthen industrial productivity and put social integration on a new footing.
Sustainability plays a central role in the planning of the Argentine architect Juan Carlos Angelomé.

For example, water consumption has been reduced by 50 percent by means of a service water treatment system. And solar thermal elements on the roof provide hot water. Sustainability was also the decisive factor in the choice of the ceramic facade system KeraTwin® from AGROB BUCHTAL. A total of approx. 8,000 m² of white ceramic tiles in the format 35 x 120 cm and 14 kilometres of three-sided glazed rectangular pipes were used for a rear-ventilated façade covering all walls exposed to the sun. This construction reduced the effects of solar radiation in the hot season by over 95 percent - with corresponding energy savings in air conditioning.

An important plus point for architect Angelomé was also the HT finish, which creates a self-washing effect every time it rains, thus guaranteeing permanently brilliant white.
