With the new Smalto series, Agrob Buchtal opens up a fascinating world of ceramic crystal glazes. Inspired by historical glaze studies and transferred to modern industrial production, tiles with extraordinary color intensity and lively effect structures are created. Changing glaze effects and individual patterns transform every surface into a unique overall picture – an interplay of craftsmanship, art and architecture that creates impressive accents in both living spaces and public areas.
Alfter-Witterschlick, March 2026 – For the development of Smalto, the design team immersed itself deeply in the world of crystal glazes. The basis for this was an extensive collection of glaze samples from a former employee who had spent many years passionately experimenting with raw material combinations and firing curves. The aim of his work was to create extraordinary colors and fascinating surface effects. Selected samples from this collection were adapted for industrial production – a process that combines traditional ceramic expertise with modern technologies.
The result is tiles with intense colors and unique ceramic effect structures. Each series has a lively and individual look: there are six colors to choose from, with each color consisting of up to 75 individually designed tiles. Lively glaze effects alternate with calmer variants, creating a distinctive surface pattern that allows new and surprising compositions to emerge with each installation.
The Smalto color palette ranges from warm, earthy tones to elegant, modern shades. Honey is bright, warm and powerful with an intense ochre character. Terracotta has an earthy, natural and handcrafted look and conveys a feeling of security. Purple stands for elegance and exclusivity and brings a representative, modern touch to rooms. Mint is fresh, vibrant and relaxing – an optimistic mix of green tones that can be combined beautifully. With its intense moss green, Moss evokes the tranquility of the forest and stands for naturalness and balance. Finally, Cobalt impresses with its elegant depth and modern exclusivity – a blue that radiates calm and creates a relaxed living atmosphere.
With Smalto, Agrob Buchtal has achieved an extraordinary combination of ceramic tradition, artistic expression and contemporary production. The series transforms surfaces into lively compositions of color, texture and light – turning every wall into an individual ceramic work of art.
